Our story

"In 1999 our client Mrs Smythe, being a devout Catholic confided to her carer that her last wish was to be blessed by Pope John Paul II. Within a week Sandra, our Co-ordinator, had arranged for a meeting with the Pope.

It was an busy time for everyone. Mrs Smythe choose two workers, Sue and Emma to fly with her to Rome, to have an audience with his Holiness. You can see from her photo she was literally terrified.

Two months after her return to Australia Mrs Smythe died quietly in the comfort of her own bed.

Her time with us was a privilege and every staff member, Catholic or not were changed forever by this wonderful experience."

family information

Our mission is to help families enjoy each other's company while we take responsibility for daily activities.

As a person loses their independence it is often up to family members to provide additional care. When people are busy, working and looking after children, it is hard.

By using Essential Care Services we can take away the stress by doing the hard work that takes time and energy.

We can support families so they can have quality time together to enjoy each other's company, to spend time reflecting on the past, and enjoy the future.

history

Essential Care was established by Evan Kourkoulis in 1996.

Having worked with a variety of people needing care, he found that the majority of people wished to remain in their own home with familiar surroundings and memories, and that the worst possible senario was to end up in a nursing home.

In setting up Essential Care Evan wanted to create a service that would be socially responsible and flexible to help people enjoy their lives even though they were less mobile and physically able.

Sandra McCaffery joined Evan in 1998 as part of the management team after working in community home care. Sandra's role is staff recruitment and training, and Client Services Co-coordinator.
